Things to see and do in Hisingen
There’s a variety of explanations for how the name Hisingen came about. One claims that it comes from the word “his”, that means to split, slice off or separate. Of course, Hisingen has long been considered a separate part of Gothenburg, but that’s now changing. Hisingen is actually Sweden’s fifth largest island and boasts plenty of tucked away favorite locations. We’ve listed seven activities that are an ideal way to welcome spring. They’re all within walking distance of each other.

Vega Brewery
The industrial park in Ringön is home to numerous exciting enterprises. One such is Vega Brewery. Their social media page regularly lists fun events such as after work get-togethers on the terrace, Beer Yoga or the Taster Bar where you can sample all their different beers. The names of Vega Brewery products also offer a taste of Gothenburg in their own right. Such as Shoreline APA and Best Coast IPA, for example.

Pöl Harbour & Svettekörka
Jubileumsparken in Frihamnen has been developed as part of the Gothenburg 400th Anniversary Celebrations in 2021 as a meeting place by the water. Two favorites in the park are the outdoor pool and sauna. Pöl Harbour is an incredibly popular floating saltwater pool by Kvillepiren. And Svettekörka with its eye catching architecture can seat 25 sauna lovers per session.

Café Fluss
Outdoor café Fluss is right next to the pool. Despite the spartan interior of EU pallets, colorful garlands and lanterns, the café has an intimate feel and space for all the family. The clientèle changes at Fluss after dark. With well-known DJs, strobe lights and high energy electronic music, Jubileumsparken is transformed into Gothenburg’s Berlin.

Lindholmen Street food Market
In a former dockyard in the heart of Lindholmen, you’ll find Gothenburg’s most delightful food court, Kooperativet. This large brick building houses food trucks, long tables and food from all corners of the world. In addition to value for money lunch served from Monday to Friday, the location hosts loads of different events on Saturdays. Local breweries, table tennis and DJs create a playful atmosphere for all tastes.

Kvillehyllan
A visit to Kvillehyllan is a must for vintage lovers. At a time when second hand shopping has become ever trendier, it can be hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. At Kvillehyllan, the stock is carefully displayed to create the most inspiring setting possible. They sell everything here from plant cuttings from private individuals and own designs to retro items of the highest quality.

Älvsnabben
If you don’t fancy heading all the way out into the Gothenburg archipelago but feel the need to inhale some sea air, we can warmly recommend Älvsnabben. There is a free all-day boat service that runs between Stenpiren and Lindholmspiren. Onboard you can see all the way from Pöl Harbour in the east to Bockkranen in Eriksberg and Älvsborgsbron in the west. Take your pick from watching the sun set from Eriksberg on Hisingen or Röda sten by Klippan ferry point. You can’t get more Gothenburgian than that.
