6 perfect places for a first date in Oslo

You’ve made a match on Tinder and are now going to meet for a date. Where should you go? Here are a few suggestions of where to take a date where you won't run out of topics to talk about.

Amazing view

The Bar Summit at the top of the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel has been given a fantastic face lift. Architects Snøhetta have opened out the 21st floor bar over the city and created comfortable seating areas for couples and groups of friends. If you worry about not having enough to talk about, you can at least point in the direction of where you live and discuss the city landscape. The bar serves fantastic cocktails, both alcoholic and alcohol free.

Walking tour with talking points

Opening up Oslo onto the fjord has involved a certain amount of work. In fact, you can now walk all the way from Sørenga to Bygdøy. Why not start with a cup of chocolate or a glass of wine at Sørenga and then stroll past the Opera House and on to Vippetangen? There you can stop off for a taco in Vippa food hall perhaps, before continuing to Aker brygge or Tjuvholmen where there’s no shortage of bars and restaurants. There’s plenty to see and talk about along the entire walk, such as the new fishing points and sauna boats. You're bound to figure out if you have anything in common during a walk like this. And who knows, maybe you’ll have sufficient shared interests to talk about that you continue all the way to Bygdøy.

Bar Brutus is in the Tøyen area in central Oslo.

Tasty and delicious

Brutus is a wine bar just behind the prison at Grønland, that serves trendy Nordic food and natural wines. Here you can order oysters, herring, salt cod with bone marrow and cheeses. If the chemistry’s right, you can order more dishes, if not so good, at least you’ve had some delicious tasters before taking the metro or bus home.

Show off your skating skills

Impress your date with pirouettes and axel jumps on the ice rink at Spikersuppa. And if your date is not that steady on skates, you can give him or her your arm for support. It's also free if you bring your own skates. Otherwise, you can rent skates for Nkr150 at the rink side pavilion. If that puts you in the mood for more chat, you can head to the Grand Hotel for a glass of wine or a mug of chocolate at the glamorous Bar Boman in the Hotel Continental.

Start the day together

Arrange your date at one of the many fantastic brunch places in Oslo. If things don't pan out, you can simply say you’ve got a meeting to go to. If on the other hand, you really hit it off, the day's only just begun. Either way, a magical eggs Benedict, juice or a fresh mimosa will give you enough energy to have a super day. We suggest Grådi in Tøyen, for example, that offers exciting brunch dishes. We're tempted by jalapeño and cheddar waffles, poached eggs on a spinach bed and Bali pancakes with caramelized banana. Sorted.
